Why perform?

So why perform at all? Why bother to share your art and inner life with other people? Well, people who like performing find it very fun. It is exhilarating, an adrenaline rush, to share something of yours with an audience and have the audience be like, “hey, that’s pretty cool.”

It can also be seen as a public service. People need entertainment and fun and play—these are not just nice-to-haves, they are essential parts of being human. Performance and entertainment helps us discover ourselves and learn about and relate to other people.

You could even say that performing is the essential human act—getting ideas from inside of your head out to someone else’s and sharing your personal experience.
