The value of stating the obvious

The value in stating the obvious is that sometimes you find out that it was not obvious. I think of the obvious as a sphere that is wholly personal to you. My obvious sphere may overlap significantly with people who I know well, who are from my culture or line of work. But even with people who are from my culture, or who I know extremely well, the spheres are not totally overlapping. So, go ahead and state the obvious, especially when you’re around people who do not know you very well and may well have no idea what is obvious to you. You may be surprised by just how little is truly obvious.
