Test data diary

March 18, 2021

Sometimes when I’m feeling more creative, I’ll try to make up more “fun” test data when I’m working on our app locally. For example, using the names of the characters of the TV show that I’m watching instead of just “foo bar” over and over again, or a true description of how I’m feeling for the name of a campaign title.

Over time, this kind of starts to read like a diary when I’m in my local dev environment. Some test users are like little waypoints back in time, helping me remember some of the big and little things I was experiencing in this year of social isolation.

On the other hand, sometimes when I’m screen sharing, I wonder if some of these weren’t such wonderful choices.
