Not meant to live like this

March 30, 2021

We weren’t meant to live like this! Trapped in our domiciles, socializing with screens. I am a 3-D person, in a 3-D world. I need a 3-D social life, one that I can also smell and taste, though my friends think it’s weird when I do that to them.

Soon pandemic life will draw to an end, and I will celebrate with abandon. I will go to bars, which formerly I hated, and I will stand around in them, hoping for people to bump into me, to spill their drink on me. I will breathe in the breath of strangers with glee, I will shout, spewing air droplets from my lungs and showering them on all those around me.

I was not meant to live with audiences of one or two, or eight trapped in tiny boxes behind a plasma screen. I demand audiences of six or more, living, in the flesh, human beings. I demand to dance in front of them, for them to see my entire body, including the back. I demand that the sound reverberates off of the walls, that people speak from behind me, that I turn and see them and say I’ll have a mango.

Soon, soon, soon.

Wash your hands.
