My succulents were dying

January 25, 2021

In a previous post, I wondered out loud, in writing, whether my succulents were dying.

I have confirmed that they are.

I discovered this when, after looking at them and deciding that they definitely looked more shriveled than they did two months ago, I decided to rehabilitate them. I removed one of them from the soil and it was basically as dry as a twig and I think I broke off its roots on accident. So I may have murdered it.

The other two were very sad indeed in the root area. I have placed them all in water and hope that they might be able to grow some roots back with which to drink the water.

Is there a moral to this story? Possibly. The relatively fleshy leaves were able to hide the shriveled and dying root system for a while, but not forever. Eventually your lack of roots is going to show.
