Little Amusingnesses, Vol 1
September 22, 2020
There are some things that make me happy. There are some things that bring me a little morsel of joy. There are some things that start as a small spark of elation and then inflate into an entire person shape of smile, some things that make me hear music even when no music is playing, some things that make me think it’s going to be OK, even though America’s Uterus is being incarcerated as we speak.
In the morning, when the sun streams through the windows at the day’s first golden hour. Hearing birds chirp. Noticing bizarre artwork in homes where I am a guest. Why is there an absurdly long cat with yellow eyes wearing a wedding gown in a home that is otherwise very much pro-dog?
Snooping wildly through other peoples’ belongings when I have a chance, especially their fridges. The fluttering sound that our cat’s ears make when she shakes her head. When our cat jumps up on a stool and then looks at me, waits a second, and then meows. The smell of the wind coming through the woods on a sunny day. Impulse purchasing something small at the grocery store, like creamed herring, just to try it. Getting the right note when I’m doing ear training on this phone app I have.
Taking a bite out of a batch of freshly made turkey meatballs. Cold pizza. Hot pizza. Popping a big air bubble in one of my silly putties. Picking a hair out of one of my silly putties. A messy kitchen becoming clean. Feeling the sun on my back. Watching leaves move in the wind.
These are just some of the tiny amusingnesses.
