How to make yourself miserable, vol 2

August 24, 2020

What are some things you think you do well? Great! Do you think you could do them better? Try raising your expectations a little bit. You’re learning the guitar? Well, that’s wonderful! Shouldn’t you be practicing for at least an hour a day, if not three, if you’re ever going to be any good?

How’s the COVID situation going for you? Are you using all of this extra, super duper special free time to better yourself, learn how to knit, learn German, volunteer with a couple of different online racial equity groups, and read all those books you’ve been meaning to read as well as create original research and start your own interview-based podcast?

How’s working from home? Have you hacked a schedule together that optimizes your productivity, mental and physical fitness, and allows you to learn constantly while also continually topping the previous day’s performance?

Do you miss your friends? If you text them, you should make sure you do it at the right time and in the right way or else they might hate you.

Are all of your FaceTime conversations with your family members incredibly deep and vulnerable? Are you being everything that everyone wants you to be?

Are you remembering to cultivate gratitude daily, with at least 10 minutes a day spent just on focusing on how much you love yourself?

Are you loving yourself enough? Are you? ARE YOU?

Good. Just remember that you have to be perfect, and you’ll do juuuuust fine.

Wash your hands.
